Spring into Learning: Keeping the Momentum Going
As we move into the final stretch of the school year, we want to encourage our Meadow Lake Elementary families to help keep the momentum going! With longer days and warmer weather, it's natural for students to become more distracted, but staying engaged in learning will help them finish the year strong.
Spring break is just around the corner, from March 31st to April 4th, with students returning to school on Monday, April 7, 2025. While we hope everyone takes this time to relax and recharge, we also encourage families to incorporate fun and educational activities into their break. Here are a few ways to keep young minds active:
✅ Read Every Day – Visit the library, swap books with a friend, or start a family read-aloud tradition. Even 20 minutes a day makes a big difference!
✅ Explore the Outdoors – Take nature walks, visit a local park, or start a small garden. Outdoor activities can spark curiosity and learning.
✅ Practice Real-World Math – Encourage kids to help with cooking, measuring ingredients, or budgeting for a grocery trip. Math is all around us!
✅ Get Creative – Art, music, and building projects help develop problem-solving skills. Encourage kids to write a story, draw a picture, or build something new.
We also want to take a moment to thank all our families for attending parent-teacher conferences. Your partnership and support are invaluable in your child’s education, and we appreciate the time you took to connect with teachers and discuss your child’s progress.
Upcoming MCA Testing for Grades 3-5
When we return from spring break, our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) on April 9th and 10th. These state tests in reading, mathematics, and science are used to meet federal and state legislative requirements. They are administered every year to measure student performance relative to the Minnesota Academic Standards, which specify what students in each grade should know and be able to do.
We encourage families to help students prepare by ensuring they get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. A positive mindset and encouragement from home can make a big difference in their confidence and success!
Let’s keep the momentum going as we head into spring! Enjoy the break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, April 7, for a strong finish to the school year.
