ROBBINSDALE AREA SCHOOLS MEDIA SPECIALIST WINS NATIONAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AWARD

New Hope, Minn. – Sally Mays, Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School (RSIS) media specialist, has received the 2012 National Information Technology Pathfinder Award, which recognizes and honors a school library media specialist demonstrating vision and leadership through the use of information technology to build lifelong learners.  The award is given annually by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) to one elementary media specialist and one secondary media specialist in the United States.

The school and the district recognize the talents that Ms. Mays brings to the district.  Jane Byrne, the principal of RSIS, was ecstatic about the news.  “Sally deserves all the recognition,” stated Byrne.  “She rocks!”

After a career in business, Ms. Mays went back to school for her education degree and her masters degree in library media education.  She then spent sixteen years in other districts before coming to Robbinsdale Area Schools.  Ms. Mays has been the library media specialist at RSIS for three years, and says that her job is to teach students how to select the best tools and methods to answer their own questions.  “The key for all students is learning and demonstrating what they know and how they learned it,” stated Mays.  “I love being a Library Media Specialist!  Students need a guide through the technology and information forest, and library media specialists do that every day.”
